Worship service at Zion United Church Kingston

Worship & Services

Experience the warmth of community worship every Sunday morning at Zion United Church.

Sunday Worship

Every Sunday at 10:30 AM, our congregation gathers to celebrate God's presence in our lives through a worship service that is both reverent and joyful. Our services offer a beautiful blend of traditional United Church liturgy with contemporary expressions of faith, creating a welcoming atmosphere for longtime members and first-time visitors alike.

A typical Sunday service at Zion includes gathering hymns, prayers of the people, scripture readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, a thoughtful and engaging sermon, musical offerings from our dedicated choir, and the sharing of community joys and concerns. Children are always welcome in worship, and supervised children's programs are available during the service.

We practise an open-table Communion on the first Sunday of each month, welcoming all who seek to share in this sacred meal regardless of denomination or church membership. Baptisms are celebrated throughout the year as families present their children or adults choose to affirm their faith through this sacrament.

Music ministry and choir at Zion United Church

Music Ministry

Music is at the heart of worship at Zion United Church. Our music ministry brings together talented and passionate musicians who enrich our services with everything from classical hymns and organ voluntaries to contemporary praise songs and special choral anthems.

The Church Choir rehearses every Thursday evening at 7:00 PM and leads congregational singing each Sunday. New voices are always welcome — no audition required! Whether you are a seasoned singer or simply enjoy making a joyful noise, you will find a warm welcome in our choir loft.

Our pipe organ, a treasured instrument in Kingston's musical heritage, provides the foundation for our worship music. Guest instrumentalists and soloists frequently contribute their gifts during special services, creating moments of profound beauty and inspiration throughout the liturgical year.

  • Church Choir — Thursdays at 7:00 PM

Sacraments

Sacred moments that mark our journey of faith

Holy Communion

Celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, Communion at Zion United Church is an open table — all are welcome to participate in this sacred meal, regardless of church membership or denomination. We use bread and grape juice, and the elements are distributed to the congregation in the pews.

Baptism

Baptism is a joyful celebration of God's grace and the welcoming of new members into the family of faith. We baptize infants and children as well as adults. If you are interested in baptism for yourself or your child, please contact our minister to learn more and arrange a conversation.

Special Services & Seasons

Marking the sacred rhythms of the Christian year

Advent & Christmas

The four Sundays of Advent build in joyful anticipation toward Christmas Eve, when our candlelight service fills the sanctuary with warmth, carols, and the timeless story of Christ's birth. It is one of the most beloved services of the year.

Lent & Easter

The forty days of Lent invite us into a season of reflection and renewal. Our journey leads to the drama of Holy Week — Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday — and the triumphant joy of Easter Sunday resurrection worship.

Thanksgiving & Pentecost

We celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with a special harvest service, giving thanks for God's blessings. Pentecost Sunday marks the birthday of the church with vibrant worship, red paraments, and the celebration of the Holy Spirit.

Pastoral Care

At Zion United Church, pastoral care is a sacred ministry of presence and compassion. Our minister and trained pastoral care visitors are available to walk alongside you during life's most challenging and joyful moments.

Whether you are facing illness, grief, loneliness, or simply need someone to talk to, our pastoral care team is here for you. We offer hospital and home visits, prayer support, bereavement support, and confidential conversations.

We also celebrate life's milestones — new babies, graduations, anniversaries, and other moments of gratitude — because pastoral care is about the fullness of life, not only its difficulties.

To request a pastoral care visit or conversation, please call the church office at (613) 543-3389 or email ZionUnitedChurchKingston@hotmail.com.
